(Sept 2019)  LGBTQ+ youth: who are they and what are their needs? This training will provide you with the knowledge and tools to work with LGBTQ youth in a manner that is welcoming, inclusive, and affirming. We will start by familiarizing ourselves with LGBTQ identities and terminologies, and move on to examine the current social and political landscape for LGBTQ youth, adults, and families in Minnesota and the US. We will end with a discussion of best practices when working with LGBTQ youth in your homes and your care and have time for Q&A.

Eva Wood, Esq. is the Anti-Violence Program Director at Outfront Minnesota. She holds degrees in Sociology, English, and Multicultural studies from the U of M Morris, and a JD from UCLA Law. While at UCLA she did extensive work with homeless LGBTQ youth and undocumented immigrants. She currently develops and provides trainings to MN service providers on LGBTQ clients, and barriers to service, and works with businesses and other agencies on LGBTQ inclusivity in the workplace. She travels throughout Minnesota and the metro area providing training. In the office she supervises the Anti-Violence program and provides crisis support and legal representation to survivors of violence. When working directly with survivors, Eva strives to embody a solidarity model of advocacy, recognizing that each individual is the expert on their own life. Eva recognizes that legal systems can be a triggering process and does her best to provide trauma-informed, survivor centered representation.
