Visitation and transition plans are a difficult challenge for child welfare professionals, foster parents, foster youth & birth parents. The training will focus on how to respond to the transition challenges. Numerous case examples will be presented. The training will also focus on how job related grief & loss impacts child welfare professionals. Case examples and supportive interventions will be presented.

Charley Joyce, LCSW, has been a social worker for approximately 40 years.  He is the co-author of the book, “Behavior with a Purpose” and a contributing author of the books “The Kinship Parenting Toolbox” and “Assessing Youth Behavior”.  He began his career as a VISTA volunteer and has worked as the clinical director of a psychiatric facility, as an outpatient therapist, supervisor of outpatient therapists, as a foster care caseworker, clinical director of foster care services and as the owner of his private practice. Charley currently contracts with Abound Counseling-LSSND. Charley was awarded the ND Adoption Advocate Award in 2011. On a part time basis, he develops on-line trainings and training DVDs through the Foster Parent College, Eugene, Oregon. His MSW is from the University of Iowa and he has completed postgraduate education in family therapy funded by the Bush Foundation. He taught as an adjunct in the MSW program at UND for approximately 8 years. On a personal level, Charley is a husband, father, grandfather and a volunteer for Big Brother.
